Liquid Bomb Plot

Liquid Bomb Plot

1x90 min for National Geographic UK/Channel 4

Director: Ben Chanan

Executive Producers: Louise Norman, Dimitri Doganis & Bart Layton

Anyone who travels by plane is well aware of the ban on drinks bottles in hand luggage but few know about the ingenious terror plot which caused it.

In 2006, a group of young British men from Walthamstow, planned to blow up multiple US airliners, simultaneously in mid-flight, with explosives disguised as soft drinks. If successful, it would have been the worst terror attack since 9/11. But unbeknown to the terrorists, as they were plotting their attacks - MI5 and the police were watching.

Over that summer, the British authorities faced a nerve-shredding race against time: trying to amass enough evidence to make arrests before the terrorists could launch their devastating attacks. The investigation spread from the streets of East London to the Al-Qaeda training camps in Pakistan and became the source of much behind-the-scenes friction between the US and UK authorities.

Featuring first-time interviews with officers from Counter-Terrorism Command, plus members of the British government and the CIA, Liquid Bomb Plot reconstructs the inside story of the UK’s largest and most dangerous surveillance operation in candid, gripping detail.

Liquid Bomb Plot is out now on National Geographic UK, and will be broadcast on Channel 4 soon.
